Pick up an AI-handed-off lead

Outcome

You open the conversation, read what AI did, and reply in your voice. The customer doesn't notice the handoff — and you close more often because they're already primed.

Your Hot tab pings. Open the conversation.

The 60-second pickup

Step 1. Read the AI summary at the top. It’s a one-line context: who they are, what they want, where you’re at.

Step 2. Skim the last 3–4 messages between AI and the customer. Don’t read the whole 20-message thread. Get the gist.

Step 3. Reply in your voice. Pick up where AI left off — same tone, same direction, just human now.

That’s it. Customer’s been texting “you” for 5 minutes. They don’t know you just replaced an algorithm.

Example

AI’s last message:

“Saturday at 11am works — I’ll have the Rogue pulled up front. Anything you want me to have ready?”

Customer’s reply:

“Yeah can you have it warmed up? It’s gonna be cold.”

Your pickup:

“Definitely. I’ll have it warmed up and the heated seats turned on. See you at 11.”

That’s a handoff. No “Hi, I’m Mike, I’ll be taking over.” No “Sorry for the confusion.” Just continue.

What changes when you take over

Two things AI did but you don’t have to:

  • Patience. AI sent 3–5 messages over a week to get this person to engage. That work is done.
  • Templates. You’re not following a script anymore. Say what a human would say.

Two things you do that AI didn’t:

  • Read the room. If they say “we’re cold,” ask if they want hot coffee when they arrive. Tiny humanity AI misses.
  • Make commitments. “I’ll have it ready.” “I’ll get you out in an hour.” Specifics AI doesn’t promise.

What if AI got something wrong

Sometimes AI promises something that’s no longer true (vehicle sold, stale pricing). Don’t apologize. Course-correct casually:

“Quick update — looks like that specific Rogue sold this morning. I’ve got two others with the same package, one’s the exact color you mentioned. I’ll have both ready Saturday.”

No drama. AI did its job. You’re doing yours.

Why this works

By the time AI hands a lead to you, they’ve been worked. They’ve engaged. They’re past the cold-shoulder phase that kills 80% of internet leads.

In beta, dead leads that AI reactivated closed at 5x the rate of the dealership’s live high-intent leads. That’s the multiplier of working primed buyers vs cold ones.

You’re getting the primed ones. Close them.

Mark complete and move on. Tomorrow morning when your Hot tab pings, you know what to do.
